Slides, transparencies, negatives and photos

Once your slides, negatives, transparencies, videos, cine film or other items have been received at our offices we will email or phone to confirm safe receipt.

digiScan operatives always wear white, lint free cotton gloves. This avoids getting any fingerprints onto your items where the acid will etch into the film and permanently damage it. Each of your individual items are then processed using the following cleansing procedure.

digiScan 3-Step Cleansing Process

digiScan start with a visual inspection. All items have larger dirt particles removed from the surface of the film. This is done using a combination of very soft fine brushes and a lint free cloth. All items then have finer particles of dust removed using a small air compressor, similar to the type an artist would use.  All items are then rotated, and slides, transparencies and negatives are checked to ensure they are facing the correct way around. This avoids having back to front number plates. We then transfer your items to the scanner.

Each scanner is calibrated daily to ensure the best results in colour, contrast and focus. Whilst your slides, transparencies or negatives are scanning an auto correcting algorithm is working out how to produce the best results. This algorithm is called Digital ICE, our scanners use the latest version, which removes scratches, blemishes and marks from the surface of the film to deliver outstanding results

Once all items are scanned and in a digital format we have a second check to ensure everything is rotated correctly.  Also, if you’ve specified separate folders for separate box’s, containers, years or events, we ensure that all images have been scanned into the correct folders.

After scanning, we load your images onto archive quality CD’s, DVD’s or Blu-ray discs. We then package you original assets and your new data disks and transport them to you using a secure courier service with tracking. Finally, we email you to let you know that your order has been dispatched.

VHS, Camcorder or Cine Film

All film cassettes are checked for damage, the roller mechanisms built into the cassette are checked and cleaned if necessary.

All cine film is visually checked for broken leader strips, broken splices and all dust removed from the surface of the film, using the same process as the slides, negatives, transparencies and photos.

All film, VHS and Camcorder tapes are transferred like for like onto archive quality DVD’s. 

All Cine film is recorded in high 1080p definition, which gives you true HD quality, and can be copied onto Blu-ray disks to enjoy on your HD television.
